About MeI am 58 years old and the third generation of my family to sail out of Lawling creek in Essex where I still live. Boats and the sea have shaped my life and I am one of those very lucky people whose driving passion has never waned. I am a lifelong sailor and believe it is right that all those who do this job should sail offshore regularly themselves. I have been surveying for over 20 years and also have extensive experience in FRP boatbuilding plus wooden boat restoration.
I am a founding member of British Marine Surveyors Europe a small but dynamic group of surveyors. Over the years I have also been a full member of both the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association, www.ydsa.co.uk and the International Institute of Marine Surveying, www.iims.org.uk Latterly however I have chosen not to belong to any of the major associations or institutes so as to be entirely independent and not necessarily "on message". I of course carry Professional Indemnity Insurance and this is in excess of the standards required by these bodies. In 2010 I had a book on surveying published by Adlard Coles Nautical which is subtitled "a Hands on Insiders Guide to buying a Secondhand FRP Boat"
